    How would you make #29 on pg 154 an equation?

    Who can help Lotta? I'll answer tomorrow if no one else does. Never give answers at first... just helpful hints to ease (not eliminate) the struggle!!

    Here's a guiding question? What DON'T you know. How many hours the train traveled for, right? So, what can you do to set up a relationship?... It's all about relationships, folks!

    I'd like to see some healthy commentary on the blog tonight and tomorrow... and remember... HINTS HINTS HINTS!!

  4. Well gosh, I gave you a hint... ANSWER THE QUESTION... DO you know how many hours the train traveled. NOOOOOOO!!!! So what do you do when you have an unknown number... you assign a ___________, perhaps h for hours?

    What would be an expression for how far the train traveled (this is a "dirt" or "drt" problem distance = rate * time). What would be an expression for how far the plane traveled? They both traveled the same distance (hint... I smell an '=' sign) so what can you do with those expressions?

    Do you get the feeling that this problem is simpler than you are making it out to be????

  5. As for #21... shouldn't we start with "what is bothering x?" And what would we get rid of first?

    When you ask questions, I'd like you to try to tell me what you think your first step or two would be... that would help us help you with your thought process, k?

  8. PLEASE GET THE WORD OUT TO EVERYONE!! For tomorrow's test, you will go to FIRST LUNCH. Mrs. Bender is your sub... SHE KNOWS THIS. You can stop by the room and drop off your books. You will have the entire class to take the test if you need it, early finishers will have a reading/homework assignment.

    Tootles!... Mr. C.

  9. No one lmk if the hints were helpful or not...

    For #29, you would simply define the variable h as the time traveled by the train... so the relationship (equation) is:

    65h = 130(h-3)

    If you are a card-carrying member of this class, you should be able to solve that one.

  10. For #21,

    2x/7 + 4/5 = 5... (subtract 4/5 fbs)

    2x/7 = 21/5... (multiply bs by 7)

    2x = 147/5... (divide bs by 2 OR mult by 1/2)

    x = 147/10... OR x = 14.7

    questions?
